An Uber driver has been tracked down to his residence after allegedly disappearing with an iPhone 16 meant for delivery following a cancelled trip in Lagos.
An X user, Ashake, who posts as #Molayoo_, raised the alarm on Saturday, tagging Uber and sharing screenshots of the booking details.
“Uber, one of your riders in Lagos, Nigeria, picked up a package (an iPhone 16) from Egbeda to be delivered to Ikeja, and he cancelled the ride midway, and he’s been unreachable ever since!
“His name is Augustine Adimabua. This is someone’s business, fgs! We need the package,” she wrote.
The situation later escalated after the driver was reportedly traced to his location.
In an update on Thursday, Ashake confirmed that he had been arrested, alleging that he sold the phone for ₦400,000.
“He has been caught and handed over to the right authorities. Thank you to every single one of you who made this possible.
“He sold iPhone 16 of over 1m, he sold it for 400k,” she added.
In video clips from the confrontation, the driver admitted receiving the device.
“I agree he gave me an iPhone 16, 256 GB, worth 1.2 million naira,” he said.
However, when pressed on its whereabouts, he claimed it had been stolen.
“Where is the phone? Where is the iPhone 16?” one of the men asked.
“The phone was stolen,” he responded.
The exchange grew tense as he was accused of dishonesty, while he appeared visibly unsettled. A woman believed to be his wife was also seen reacting in shock during the incident.
The video has since gone viral, with many users sharing similar experiences of missing or stolen deliveries, while others strongly condemned the incident.
Vibeslyfe.com reported in 2025 that delivery delays and theft cost Nigeria’s logistics sector billions of naira annually, largely due to poor tracking systems and limited journey oversight.
Earlier in 2026, an investigation into the country’s food delivery industry also highlighted a growing pattern of theft, missing orders, and tampered packages involving dispatch riders—issues that have continued to weaken consumer trust in the rapidly expanding sector.
