“Top Cocaine Dealer Arrested in Bangkok.”

  • by

Police in Bangkok arrested a major cocaine dealer on Friday, ending her 10-year operation, which had previously evaded capture through connections via her Nigerian ex-husband. Many of her clients were reportedly from elite circles. Kanyapaphat “Nam” Phatwaratthaya, 38, was taken into custody while delivering drugs near an ice hockey rink on Soi Pridi Phanomyong 37 in the Khlong Tan Nuea area of Watthana district, Deputy Chief of the Metropolitan Police, Pol Maj Gen Theeradej Thamsuthee, said on Saturday. Her right-hand man and four customers were also arrested, with authorities seizing 250 grams of cocaine and assets valued at 6.2 million baht. The arrests followed an expanded operation after police dismantled a West African drug network linked to her ex-husband in Bangkok’s Nana area late last year, Pol Maj Gen Theeradej added. Police did not provide details on the arrest of Kanyapaphat’s ex-husband, though reports indicate a Nigerian dealer was detained at an entertainment venue in October, allegedly selling drugs with the involvement of a Thai wife. Investigators said Kanyapaphat admitted to long-term involvement with West African gangs and knowledge of sources for cheap cocaine. Using… “Top Cocaine Dealer Arrested in Bangkok.”

He explained that any funds provided by the Bank would be directed toward completing several strategic ongoing road projects, and that tolling mechanisms would be introduced to ensure both sustainability and repayment. In a statement to journalists, Umahi also highlighted the challenges facing the road sector, including the high cost of construction and limited availability of funds. “Infrastructure development remains the most critical requirement for Nigeria to achieve its desired position in global economic competitiveness,” he said, stressing that efficient road networks are essential for national growth, trade, and social development. Umahi further noted, “When I assumed office, the Ministry inherited about 260 weak road links, 50 dilapidated bridges, and numerous failed road sections nationwide. “The action comes as a direct counter to Trump’s decision to pull the US out of the WHO.” California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the state has become the first in the United States to formally join the World Health Organization’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN). Newsom described the move as a direct response to President Donald Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of the WHO. In a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Newsom said California’s participation in the global health network aims to strengthen the state’s ability to respond to public health threats. GOARN is a WHO-led collaboration of institutions and networks worldwide, designed to provide rapid response to infectious disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies. By joining, California can work directly with international health experts, laboratories, and emergency response teams to detect and respond to outbreaks more effectively. Newsom’s announcement comes amid renewed political debate in the U.S. over global health cooperation, particularly following Trump’s criticism of the WHO and his repeated moves to withdraw U.S. participation during his presidency. “Minnesota Businesses Grind to a Halt as Protesters Strike Against Trump’s Immigration Raids.”

  • by

An “ICE Out!” day of protest mobilised hundreds of demonstrators, who braved freezing temperatures to make their voices heard. Businesses across Minnesota shut their doors on Friday as workers walked off the job and joined mass demonstrations against the Trump administration’s decision to deploy a heavy federal immigration enforcement presence in Minneapolis—an action labour unions and faith groups described as a de facto general strike. The coordinated action, branded by organisers as an “ICE Out!” day of protest, drew hundreds of demonstrators into the streets, undeterred by freezing temperatures. In Minneapolis, large crowds gathered near Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport to denounce the transfer of detained migrants onto outbound flights and to demand accountability over the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a U.S. citizen, by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent earlier this month. Near Terminal 1, clergy members knelt on a roadway in prayer as demonstrators chanted anti-ICE slogans, according to Reuters. Police from multiple local departments ordered the crowd to disperse before arresting dozens of protesters who refused to comply. Organisers said about 100 clergy members were taken into custody, zip-tied, and transported… “Minnesota Businesses Grind to a Halt as Protesters Strike Against Trump’s Immigration Raids.”

Nigeria Faces Widespread Power Outage as National Grid Collapses Again

  • by

After the collapse, power supply to the 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) fell to just 20 MW as of Friday afternoon. Millions of Nigerians were thrown into near-total darkness on Friday after the country’s national grid experienced a major collapse, with power generation plummeting to just 20 megawatts (MW). Following the collapse, power allocation to the 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) fell dramatically. According to data released by the Nigeria National Grid on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account at 1:20 PM, only Ibadan DisCo received any meaningful supply, with 20 MW. All other DisCos—including Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola—recorded zero MW. The incident comes barely three weeks after the fragile electricity system slipped into emergency mode on December 29, 2025, when the national grid similarly collapsed, leaving most DisCos without supply. Total generation plunged sharply within one hour, falling from 2,052.37 MW to just 139.92 MW between 2 PM and 3 PM, signaling a major system disturbance. This sudden drop led to uneven power allocation, with only three DisCos able to receive any load. Ibadan DisCo received… Nigeria Faces Widespread Power Outage as National Grid Collapses Again

Nigeria and other African nations have arrested and deported hundreds of Chinese nationals operating corporate-style cybercriminal syndicates. ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIME COMMISSION Since early 2025, Nigerian authorities have arrested hundreds of Chinese nationals linked to cybercrime syndicates operating across the country. In August alone, Nigeria deported more than 100 people—60 of them Chinese nationals—after convictions for cyberterrorism and internet fraud. Most of those convicted were involved in online romance scams designed to lure victims into investing in fake cryptocurrency schemes, according to Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Following additional arrests in February, the agency said it was intensifying its efforts and working with international partners to dismantle cybercrime networks. EFCC officials have argued in court that cybercrime poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s economic stability and social fabric. In recent years, dozens of Chinese nationals have been deported or imprisoned across Africa as similar criminal operations have spread throughout the continent. In 2024, Angolan authorities arrested 46 Chinese nationals who were running an illegal online casino from a hotel in Luanda, targeting gamblers in Nigeria and Brazil. The Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has condemned the arrest and unlawful detention of 52 students of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, describing the action as a dangerous suppression of youth voices and democratic expression. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Senator called for the immediate release of the detained students, insisting that protest and civic engagement must never be criminalized in a democratic society. “Dialogue, not detention, is the pathway to peace and progress,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said, adding that youths must not be criminalised for speaking out and protesting issues affecting their environment, welfare and future. Nigeria Eyes Crypto Cash: National IDs and Taxes in the Spotlight 💰

  • by

The Nigerian government plans to make crypto transactions fully traceable under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA) 2025. The legislation allows authorities to link digital asset transfers to individuals’ Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) and National Identification Numbers (NINs). This move marks a major step in improving transparency in the country’s crypto space, which previously lacked the ability to monitor digital asset flows effectively. By matching crypto transactions against income declarations and tax records, the government aims to curb tax evasion and ensure proper reporting. The initiative aligns with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), which came into effect on January 1, 2026. CARF is designed to prevent tax avoidance in the crypto sector, providing governments with tools to track both domestic and international crypto transactions. Nigeria’s approach mirrors efforts in other countries, such as the UK, where crypto providers collect customer information, including names, birth dates, and tax identifiers, to ensure compliance with national tax regulations. The Nigerian government issues the TIN (Tax ID) through the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and the Joint Revenue Board (JRB). “Nigeria: Former Tax Institute President Says Wealthy Nigerians Fuel Tax Resistance”

  • by

Former president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Gladys Simplice, has called on Nigerians to embrace the new tax regime, attributing resistance to the reforms to wealthy individuals reluctant to comply with higher tax obligations. Simplice told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that the greatest challenge facing the reforms was not the provisions of the law, but what she described as a “mindset issue” among taxpayers. NAN reports that the implementation of the Nigerian Tax Act and the Nigerian Tax Administration Act—two of the four laws comprising the 2026 tax reforms>has commenced nationwide. She said Nigerians must begin to see taxation as a civic responsibility rather than a burden, stressing that sustainable national development depends largely on efficient tax collection. “Taxes are what build nations. We cannot continue to complain about poor infrastructure and still resist the very instrument used to fix it,” Simplice said. She added that the reforms mark a significant shift in Nigeria’s tax system, particularly by protecting low-income earners, who have historically borne a disproportionate share of the tax burden. “US–Nigeria Joint Christmas Airstrikes Cripple Bandit Networks in Northwest Nigeria”

  • by

The United States, in joint operations with the Nigerian military, launched Christmas Day airstrikes that have reportedly delivered a serious setback to notorious bandit groups operating around the Sokoto–Zamfara axis of northwest Nigeria. Security sources familiar with the operation said the strikes targeted terrorist hideouts located in forested areas linking Sokoto State, Zamfara State and parts of the Niger Republic, long identified as strongholds for armed bandit leaders responsible for mass kidnappings, killings and cattle rustling in the region. According to information gathered by VibesLyfe on Monday, Bello Turji, one of the most feared bandit leaders in northwest Nigeria, is believed to have been killed in the operation. Turji has long been responsible for deadly assaults on rural communities and security personnel across Zamfara and surrounding states. Although official casualty figures have not yet been released by Nigerian or U.S. authorities, preliminary intelligence. Confided by sources indicates that several high-value targets were eliminated in the strikes, marking one of the most impactful operations against bandit leadership in recent years. The Christmas Day operation follows growing military cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in… “US–Nigeria Joint Christmas Airstrikes Cripple Bandit Networks in Northwest Nigeria”

According to The VIBESLYFE, the Lexus SUV conveying the boxer, with registration number KRD 850 HN, was said to have crashed under circumstances that are still being investigated by authorities. However, as of the time of filing this report, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babasey, did not respond to calls seeking comment on the incident. Joshua recently defeated Jake Paul in a heavyweight clash tagged “Judgment Day,” which took place on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Kaseya Center in Miami.

“Beware: Fraudsters sending fake traffic fine alerts by SMS.”

Fines SA has warned motorists about a rise in fraudulent SMS messages claiming recipients have unpaid traffic fines. The scam messages urge immediate payment and often include links to fake websites designed to resemble official municipal or traffic fine platforms. Barry Berman, CEO of Fines SA, said there has been a surge in motorists contacting the organisation to verify whether such messages are legitimate. “These SMSs are made to look authentic and are intended to create urgency and panic,” Berman said. “Once a motorist clicks the link and makes a payment on an unsafe site, the money is lost and no fine is actually paid.” In these scams, motorists typically receive an SMS or WhatsApp message warning of an outstanding fine or imminent penalties. The link provided leads to a cloned website that closely resembles an official payment platform. A key red flag is that these links do not direct users to www.finessa.co.za, which is Fines SA’s only official website. Fines SA is urging motorists to exercise caution and independently verify any fine-related messages before taking action. Payments should only be made through secure, verified… “Beware: Fraudsters sending fake traffic fine alerts by SMS.”

“Attack on Nigerian mining site leaves at least 12 dead.”

  • by

At least 12 people were killed and three others abducted after gunmen attacked a mining site in Atoso village, Plateau State, on Tuesday night, a local group leader said on Wednesday. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, leader of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), said the attackers—identified by residents as armed Fulani militias—also left five people hospitalised with gunshot wounds. Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing. The attack highlights the persistent insecurity in Plateau State, a flashpoint in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where long-running ethnic and religious tensions have fueled deadly clashes between farmers and herders despite repeated government assurances of restoring peace. Tuesday’s attack came just days after four children were killed in a nearby village, Mwantiri said, accusing authorities of ignoring early warning signs. The BYM is urging the government to deploy more security forces to enforce a ban on open grazing, and rescue the abducted victims.

“Bruno Fernandes Names Three Ideal Destinations If He Leaves Manchester United.”

Fernandes has confirmed he was close to moving to Saudi Arabia during the summer, claiming that United wanted him to leave but talks with his family and head coach Ruben Amorim saw him stay put. Al-Hilal were understood to be willing to pay £100million for Fernandes, offering the midfielder wages of up to £700,000 a week, but resisted the move despite pressure from above which left him “hurt”. Bruno Fernandes’ time at Old Trafford appears set to end sooner rather than later, with the midfielder entering the final 18 months of his Manchester United contract in January. He has already revealed three dream destinations—none of which include Saudi Arabia. “I would like to experience the Spanish league and fight for big titles in Italy,” Fernandes told Canal 11. “I have many connections to Italy… my daughter was born there. “I’ve also thought about returning to Portugal… the first option would be Sporting. To be happy, like it was with Sporting. But I don’t want to ruin the image that was left.” “But I don’t want to drag myself there, I want to add to it. Northern Elders Urge Swift Termination of Controversial FIRS-France Tax Agreement

  • by

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has demanded the immediate termination of a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the French tax authority, Direction Générale des Finances Publiques, warning that the agreement poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s economic sovereignty and national security. In an open letter addressed to the Federal Government, the Senate, and the House of Representatives, NEF described the MoU as a “dangerous tax data agreement” that could place Nigeria’s most sensitive financial information under foreign control. The letter was signed by NEF spokesperson, Prof. Abubakar Jiddere. “The Northern Elders Forum writes today with grave concern and a profound sense of patriotic duty,” the letter reads. “This MoU is far from a harmless technical collaboration. It represents an unprotected gateway into the core of Nigeria’s tax infrastructure, potentially putting our most sensitive economic data in the hands of a foreign power whose historical engagements in Africa have frequently led to economic manipulation, political pressure, and strategic domination.” The forum warned that granting France access to Nigeria’s tax data undermines the country’s economic independence and could… Northern Elders Urge Swift Termination of Controversial FIRS-France Tax Agreement

The national oil firm earlier reported an explosion around 17:50 hours on December 10, 2025, near the Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State. Initial assessments indicated a pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment on a pipeline operated by NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC). NNPC stressed that the cause of the explosion remains unknown and will be determined following a detailed investigation. The company emphasized that its immediate priority was the safety of nearby communities and environmental protection. “Emergency response procedures have been activated, and we are working closely with relevant authorities and community leaders to ensure a coordinated approach to mitigate the impact. Peter Obi Poised to Exit Labour Party Amid Lingering Leadership Crisis

  • by

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is expected to formally leave the party this week, following months of unresolved leadership disputes and internal divisions. Obi’s departure stems from the prolonged instability within the Labour Party, which has struggled with factional leadership, ongoing court battles, and lack of cohesion since the 2023 elections. The move has intensified speculation about his next political platform, though no final decision has been publicly confirmed. POLITICS NIGERIA reports that several opposition parties have reached out to the former Anambra State governor, but talks remain fluid. While Obi has been linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), internal issues and emerging party alignments may delay any immediate move. Sources say he is weighing options that provide political freedom and a clear path forward, rather than joining an established party with entrenched interests. The Labour Party crisis, centered on disputes over former National Chairman Julius Abure’s tenure, has left the party fractured with parallel executives claiming legitimacy. Those close to Obi believe his continued presence has inadvertently fueled the internal power struggle. Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign transformed the Labour Party from… Peter Obi Poised to Exit Labour Party Amid Lingering Leadership Crisis

Remi Tinubu Speaks Out on Her Dispute With Osun Governor Adeleke

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has responded publicly to the growing debate over her interaction with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife. The ceremony, held on Sunday in Ile-Ife, marked a decade on the throne for Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi and included the conferment of the Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua title on the First Lady. However, celebrations took an unexpected turn following a tense exchange between Mrs Tinubu and Governor Adeleke. As the governor stepped forward to deliver his remarks, he began by singing praises to the monarch and the First Lady. She cut in, saying, “Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone,” before directing him to “conclude in five minutes.” A video of the moment quickly went viral, sparking widespread criticism from Nigerians who considered her tone confrontational and unnecessary. Amid the backlash, Mrs Tinubu addressed the controversy late Monday via her Facebook page, sharing a picture of herself standing beside Governor Adeleke. She noted that public office holders are often judged more harshly, with minor actions easily exaggerated. “Those… Remi Tinubu Speaks Out on Her Dispute With Osun Governor Adeleke

Deadly Attack in South Africa Claims 11 Lives

At least 11 people have been killed in a mass shooting at a hostel in South Africa. Fourteen others were injured when gunmen stormed the venue in Saulsville township, west of the capital, Pretoria, early on Saturday. Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has approved protection and security for Fernando Dias Da Costa, a presidential candidate in Guinea-Bissau’s November 2025 election, at the Nigerian Embassy in Guinea-Bissau. “AFCON 2025: Eric Chelle Worried as Serie A Star Remains Unfit for Action.”

  • by

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle may have to adjust his midfield options for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a series of injury setbacks, according to Soccernet.ng. The Franco-Malian manager released his provisional squad list earlier this week, featuring several fresh additions. Among the newcomers is Pisa midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro. The 21-year-old has stood out in Serie A this season, becoming an important figure for the newly promoted side. The Inter Milan loanee was even expected to make Nigeria’s team for the last international break, but a shoulder injury ruled him out of contention. He was supposed to spend around 4-6 weeks on the sidelines. Last week, it was revealed that he would be back in action for Pisa’s game against Parma at Arena Garibaldi on Monday. But fresh reports from Parma Live indicate that Akinsanmiro is yet to reach full fitness. As of Thursday, the Inter Milan loanee was still training individually, away from the rest of the squad. This means that he has not been passed fit yet and would definitely have to undergo a late fitness test before he can play against Parma on Monday.… “AFCON 2025: Eric Chelle Worried as Serie A Star Remains Unfit for Action.”

“Edo Governor Alleges Kidnappings Are Politically Motivated Attack on Tinubu”

  • by

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has stated that the current surge in abductions across Nigeria is a deliberate attempt to discourage President Bola Tinubu. Okpebholo argued that a similar strategy was reportedly used against former President Goodluck Jonathan and succeeded, but insisted that it would not work against the current administration. The governor’s remarks come amid a new surge of bandit-related abductions across the country. In November, armed bandits stormed the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Oke Isegun, Eruku, Kwara State, and kidnapped several worshippers during a service. In a separate attack, suspected bandits abducted 10 residents in the Biresawa and Tsundu communities of Tsanyawa Local Government Area in Kano State. Speaking to Igbo leaders at the Government House in Benin City, Okpebholo alleged that the recent kidnappings were driven by political motives. He said: “These kidnappings are happening because they want to frustrate the President, but he remains steadfast. “They are abducting people because someone wants to win an election. It’s unfair. They tried this with Goodluck Jonathan and succeeded, but we already understand their tactics.”

Dutch soldiers to take charge of Patriot air defense in Poland

  • by

Dutch soldiers are to spend the next six months defending the skies over eastern Poland in what one officer has called “the grey zone between war and peace”. The 300 troops will take control of the Patriot missile defence system from Germany, which has been responsible for responding to potential Russian attacks for the last year. Former commander of the Dutch armed forces, Mart de Kruif, said they would be monitoring the skies “24 hours a day, seven days a week” for ballistic missiles, drones and other objects. “We have seen Nato airspace being infiltrated from the east, often by what we presume to be Russian drones,” De Kruif said. “Nato said at the time: this is the limit. We are going to intensify our air defences.” In September Dutch F-35 fighter jets were involved in shooting down Russian drones that crossed the Polish border during a major aerial attack on Ukraine. Eastern Poland is where Nato stores military hardware that its members have donated to Ukraine and co-ordinates the transport across the border.
