“Man City Responds to 115-Charge Case as Liverpool Awaits Verdict.”

  • by

Manchester City has released its annual report, shedding light on the potential outcome following a hearing into 115 charges brought by the Premier League. The club stands accused of allegedly violating financial rules over a nine-year span from 2009 to 2018. An independent hearing was held a year ago, but alongside Liverpool and the rest of the Premier League, the club is still awaiting the verdict. The commission has yet to publicly announce its decision on the alleged breaches, which City vehemently denies. The decision has been imminent for quite some time, there’s not a lot that they can do. It doesn’t take that long.” However, according to the Manchester Evening News, City’s annual report states that the independent commission is still ‘reviewing the matter’. The annual report from City reads: “In response to the charges, the Club issued a public statement that it welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. “As at the date of publishing these financial statements, the independent Commission is still in the process of reviewing…

“Bruno Fernandes Names Three Ideal Destinations If He Leaves Manchester United.”

  • by

Fernandes has confirmed he was close to moving to Saudi Arabia during the summer, claiming that United wanted him to leave but talks with his family and head coach Ruben Amorim saw him stay put. Al-Hilal were understood to be willing to pay £100million for Fernandes, offering the midfielder wages of up to £700,000 a week, but resisted the move despite pressure from above which left him “hurt”. Bruno Fernandes’ time at Old Trafford appears set to end sooner rather than later, with the midfielder entering the final 18 months of his Manchester United contract in January. He has already revealed three dream destinations—none of which include Saudi Arabia. “I would like to experience the Spanish league and fight for big titles in Italy,” Fernandes told Canal 11. “I have many connections to Italy… my daughter was born there. “I’ve also thought about returning to Portugal… the first option would be Sporting. To be happy, like it was with Sporting. But I don’t want to ruin the image that was left.” “But I don’t want to drag myself there, I want to add to it. And even try district…

Northern Elders Urge Swift Termination of Controversial FIRS-France Tax Agreement

  • by

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has demanded the immediate termination of a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the French tax authority, Direction Générale des Finances Publiques, warning that the agreement poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s economic sovereignty and national security. In an open letter addressed to the Federal Government, the Senate, and the House of Representatives, NEF described the MoU as a “dangerous tax data agreement” that could place Nigeria’s most sensitive financial information under foreign control. The letter was signed by NEF spokesperson, Prof. Abubakar Jiddere. “The Northern Elders Forum writes today with grave concern and a profound sense of patriotic duty,” the letter reads. “This MoU is far from a harmless technical collaboration. It represents an unprotected gateway into the core of Nigeria’s tax infrastructure, potentially putting our most sensitive economic data in the hands of a foreign power whose historical engagements in Africa have frequently led to economic manipulation, political pressure, and strategic domination.” The forum warned that granting France access to Nigeria’s tax data undermines the country’s economic independence and could…

NNPC Targets 2.06m bpd Oil Output in 2026, Praises PINL Emmanuel Addeh in Abuja and Blessing Ibunge in Port Harcourt The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) yesterday confirmed that it had successfully contained the fire that affected a section of the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) in South-West Warri, Delta State, last week. The national oil firm earlier reported an explosion around 17:50 hours on December 10, 2025, near the Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State. Initial assessments indicated a pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment on a pipeline operated by NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC). NNPC stressed that the cause of the explosion remains unknown and will be determined following a detailed investigation. The company emphasized that its immediate priority was the safety of nearby communities and environmental protection. “Emergency response procedures have been activated, and we are working closely with relevant authorities and community leaders to ensure a coordinated approach to mitigate the impact. NNPC Ltd remains committed to the highest safety and environmental standards,” the company said in a statement by its spokesman, Andy Odeh.…

Peter Obi Poised to Exit Labour Party Amid Lingering Leadership Crisis

  • by

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is expected to formally leave the party this week, following months of unresolved leadership disputes and internal divisions. Obi’s departure stems from the prolonged instability within the Labour Party, which has struggled with factional leadership, ongoing court battles, and lack of cohesion since the 2023 elections. The move has intensified speculation about his next political platform, though no final decision has been publicly confirmed. POLITICS NIGERIA reports that several opposition parties have reached out to the former Anambra State governor, but talks remain fluid. While Obi has been linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), internal issues and emerging party alignments may delay any immediate move. Sources say he is weighing options that provide political freedom and a clear path forward, rather than joining an established party with entrenched interests. The Labour Party crisis, centered on disputes over former National Chairman Julius Abure’s tenure, has left the party fractured with parallel executives claiming legitimacy. Those close to Obi believe his continued presence has inadvertently fueled the internal power struggle. Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign transformed the Labour Party from…

Remi Tinubu Speaks Out on Her Dispute With Osun Governor Adeleke

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has responded publicly to the growing debate over her interaction with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife. The ceremony, held on Sunday in Ile-Ife, marked a decade on the throne for Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi and included the conferment of the Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua title on the First Lady. However, celebrations took an unexpected turn following a tense exchange between Mrs Tinubu and Governor Adeleke. As the governor stepped forward to deliver his remarks, he began by singing praises to the monarch and the First Lady. She cut in, saying, “Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone,” before directing him to “conclude in five minutes.” A video of the moment quickly went viral, sparking widespread criticism from Nigerians who considered her tone confrontational and unnecessary. Amid the backlash, Mrs Tinubu addressed the controversy late Monday via her Facebook page, sharing a picture of herself standing beside Governor Adeleke. She noted that public office holders are often judged more harshly, with minor actions easily exaggerated. “Those…

Deadly Attack in South Africa Claims 11 Lives

At least 11 people have been killed in a mass shooting at a hostel in South Africa. Fourteen others were injured when gunmen stormed the venue in Saulsville township, west of the capital, Pretoria, early on Saturday. A three-year-old child was among those killed. “At least three unknown gunmen entered the hostel, where a group of people were drinking, and started shooting indiscriminately,” police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said. The motive behind the attack is unclear, and no arrests have been made. This incident is the latest in a series of mass shootings in South Africa, a country that has seen a rise in violent crime in recent years. The gunmen reportedly arrived around 04:30 local time (14:30 GMT) and opened fire on a group of men drinking at the illegal hostel. Among the dead were a 12-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. “I can confirm that a total of 25 people were shot,” Mathe added. Tinubu Grants ‘Protection’ to Guinea-Bissau Presidential Candidate at Nigerian Embassy Following Coup

  • by

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has approved protection and security for Fernando Dias Da Costa, a presidential candidate in Guinea-Bissau’s November 2025 election, at the Nigerian Embassy in Guinea-Bissau. In a letter signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and addressed to the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Omar Touray, Tuggar stated that President Tinubu authorized the “provision of protection and security for the premises of the Nigerian Embassy in Guinea-Bissau.” The letter further explained that this decision is “a proactive measure to ensure the safety of Mr. Da Costa in response to imminent threats to his life.” This development comes after the military seized power in Guinea-Bissau through a coup, while citizens await the results of the presidential election. President Tinubu stated that the move also demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to “safeguard the democratic aspirations and the sovereign will of the people of Guinea-Bissau.” He further urged the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau to provide protection and security for Fernando Dias Da Costa while he remains at the Nigerian Embassy. Incumbent President Umaro Sissoco Embaló had been contesting…

“AFCON 2025: Eric Chelle Worried as Serie A Star Remains Unfit for Action.”

  • by

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle may have to adjust his midfield options for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a series of injury setbacks, according to Soccernet.ng. The Franco-Malian manager released his provisional squad list earlier this week, featuring several fresh additions. Among the newcomers is Pisa midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro. The 21-year-old has stood out in Serie A this season, becoming an important figure for the newly promoted side. The Inter Milan loanee was even expected to make Nigeria’s team for the last international break, but a shoulder injury ruled him out of contention. He was supposed to spend around 4-6 weeks on the sidelines. Last week, it was revealed that he would be back in action for Pisa’s game against Parma at Arena Garibaldi on Monday. But fresh reports from Parma Live indicate that Akinsanmiro is yet to reach full fitness. As of Thursday, the Inter Milan loanee was still training individually, away from the rest of the squad. This means that he has not been passed fit yet and would definitely have to undergo a late fitness test before he can play against Parma on Monday.…

“Edo Governor Alleges Kidnappings Are Politically Motivated Attack on Tinubu”

  • by

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has stated that the current surge in abductions across Nigeria is a deliberate attempt to discourage President Bola Tinubu. Okpebholo argued that a similar strategy was reportedly used against former President Goodluck Jonathan and succeeded, but insisted that it would not work against the current administration. The governor’s remarks come amid a new surge of bandit-related abductions across the country. In November, armed bandits stormed the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Oke Isegun, Eruku, Kwara State, and kidnapped several worshippers during a service. In a separate attack, suspected bandits abducted 10 residents in the Biresawa and Tsundu communities of Tsanyawa Local Government Area in Kano State. Speaking to Igbo leaders at the Government House in Benin City, Okpebholo alleged that the recent kidnappings were driven by political motives. He said: “These kidnappings are happening because they want to frustrate the President, but he remains steadfast. “They are abducting people because someone wants to win an election. It’s unfair. They tried this with Goodluck Jonathan and succeeded, but we already understand their tactics.”

Dutch soldiers to take charge of Patriot air defense in Poland

  • by

Dutch soldiers are to spend the next six months defending the skies over eastern Poland in what one officer has called “the grey zone between war and peace”. The 300 troops will take control of the Patriot missile defence system from Germany, which has been responsible for responding to potential Russian attacks for the last year. Former commander of the Dutch armed forces, Mart de Kruif, said they would be monitoring the skies “24 hours a day, seven days a week” for ballistic missiles, drones and other objects. “We have seen Nato airspace being infiltrated from the east, often by what we presume to be Russian drones,” De Kruif said. “Nato said at the time: this is the limit. We are going to intensify our air defences.” In September Dutch F-35 fighter jets were involved in shooting down Russian drones that crossed the Polish border during a major aerial attack on Ukraine. Eastern Poland is where Nato stores military hardware that its members have donated to Ukraine and co-ordinates the transport across the border. The Germans did not have cause to engage the Patriots in…

  • by

The development comes days after Vibeslyfe revealed that Mokwa had been released from detention after public pressure and questions raised over the legality of the cybercrime counts. The Niger State Government on Friday formally withdrew all Cybercrimes Act charges earlier filed against student activist Isah Mokwa, following fresh legal advice presented before the High Court by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The development comes days after Vibeslyfe revealed that Mokwa had been released from detention after public pressure and questions raised over the legality of the cybercrime counts. According to the open-court proceedings, the DPP confirmed that the state lacked the legal authority to prosecute offences under the Cybercrimes Act. The prosecution told the court it would now proceed only with allegations listed under the Niger State Penal Code Law 2023, including incitement, unlawful assembly in the electronic space, injurious falsehood and criminal defamation. Explaining the defence team’s formal application, Mokwa’s legal representative, Ibrahim Usman Wali, said the defense did not oppose the state’s new position but sought additional material required for a fair hearing. He said, “We raised no objection to the state’s…

FG Releases NOTAM Ahead of Nigeria’s First-Ever International Airshow

  • by

The Federal Government has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting flights into Abuja during aerial displays scheduled for the Nigeria International Airshow, which opens on Tuesday. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the directive on Friday while inspecting the airside arrangements at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the venue of the three-day event. Keyamo said the Nigeria Air Force will conduct aerial demonstrations on the first and last days of the airshow, during which the Abuja airspace will be temporarily closed for safety. “The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency has already issued a NOTAM. For the brief period when there will be air displays, airlines have been told not to fly in or out, to hold their flights for that period, not to fly into Abuja while the sky is agog with displays,” he said. The minister described the event as an important platform for Nigeria to showcase the capabilities of its aviation ecosystem, similar to the Farnborough Airshow in the United Kingdom, the Paris Airshow, and the Dubai Airshow. As Nigeria hosts an international airshow for the first time, Keyamo said…

“Court of Appeal Dismisses Nnamdi Kanu’s Suit Alleging Rights Violations by DSS Director-General and AGF”

  • by

On Friday, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal filed by Nnamdi Kanu, the convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Kanu had challenged what he claimed were violations of his fundamental rights by the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF). A three-member panel ruled that the appeal lacked merit and had become academic following Kanu’s conviction and life sentence by the Federal High Court in Abuja on November 20. Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Boloukuromo Ugo noted that Kanu’s claims—including alleged denial of adequate medical care, dignity, and freedom of religion—could no longer be considered, as he was no longer in DSS custody but in a correctional facility. Justice Ugo noted that Kanu’s lawyer, Maxwell Opara, had confirmed at the start of proceedings that his client was being held at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, making the request for transfer from DSS custody to Kuje prison irrelevant. The judge added that Kanu had earlier indicated preference for prison custody, and therefore his prayers had been overtaken by events following his…

“Apple Faces Legal Fire in US Over Congo Conflict Minerals”

  • by

A US-based advocacy group has filed a lawsuit in Washington, claiming that Apple uses minerals connected to conflict and human rights abuses in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, even though Apple denies these claims. The group, International Rights Advocates (IRAdvocates), has previously sued Tesla, Apple, and other tech companies over where they get cobalt, but US courts dismissed that case last year. In France, prosecutors also dropped a case against Apple’s subsidiaries in December due to insufficient evidence. Meanwhile, a related criminal complaint in Belgium is still being investigated. Apple has denied any wrongdoing, saying it told its suppliers to stop sourcing materials from the DRC and neighboring Rwanda. It did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the latest complaint. IRAdvocates, a Washington-based nonprofit that tries to use litigation to curtail rights abuses, said in the complaint filed on Tuesday in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia that Apple’s supply chain still includes cobalt, tin, tantalum and tungsten linked to child and forced labour as well as armed groups in the DRC and Rwanda. US President Donald Trump, who was at his resort in Florida to celebrate Thanksgiving at the time of the attack, released a prerecorded video statement on his Truth Social media account later on November 26 calling the shooting “an act of evil, an act of hatred and an act of terror.” According to Trump, the suspect arrived in the United States in September 2021 on one of “those infamous flights” — a referral to the evacuation of Afghans after the Taliban regained control following the US withdrawal. He also added that his administration would “re-examine” all Afghans who came to the United States during Joe Biden’s presidency. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services agency later confirmed on X that “effective…

  • by

Vibeslyfe – Rapper Nicki Minaj took up President Donald Trump’s allegations that Christians are persecuted in Nigeria, saying Tuesday at a United Nations event organized by the U.S. that she wants to shine a spotlight on “the deadly threat.” Trump has said Christianity faces an “existential threat” in Nigeria and has told the Pentagon to begin preparing for possible military action in the West African nation. Experts and residents say some attacks target Christians, but most emphasize that in the widespread violence that has long plagued the West African nation, everyone is a potential victim, regardless of background or belief. The Trinidadian-born Minaj thanked Trump for his leadership and for calling for urgent action “to defend Christians in Nigeria, to combat extremism and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to exercise their natural right to freedom of religion or belief.” She spoke at a panel at the U.S. mission to the United Nations along with U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz and faith leaders. “Arguments about the term ‘genocide’ overshadow the real suffering in Nigeria.”

  • by

Attacks on Christians are increasing in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, with some observers and activists calling the violence “genocide” while others question the accuracy of the term. That there is debate over the applicability of the word – a technical term in international law – already suggests an appalling reality on the ground. Recent data from International Society of Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, Intersociety, indicating at least 7000 Christians were killed in Nigeria between January and November this year. Pope Leo XIV was asked about the situation for the attacks on Christians in Nigeria on Nov. 18, as he entered the papal residence in Castel Gandolfo. “I think in Nigeria, in certain areas, there is certainly a danger for Christians, but for all people. Christians and Muslims have been slaughtered,” the pontiff said. “There’s a question of terrorism. There’s a question that has to do a lot with economics, if you will, and control of the lands that they have,” he added. “Unfortunately, many Christians have died, and I think it’s very, it’s important to seek a way for the government,…

“Fragmented Markets Undermining Africa’s Borders, Warns President Tinubu”

  • by

“President Bola Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to fostering an Africa with efficient borders that promote trade and economic opportunities rather than obstruct them.” He implored African nations to be disciplined in working towards building borders that meet the high demands and rapid pace of contemporary technological advancement. Speaking on Monday in Abuja when he declared open the Customs PACT – Partnership for African Cooperation in Trade, the President expressed delight to be a part of the event, which brought together partners and leaders from across the continent, saying it demonstrates the collective resolve to discard the old habit of accepting slow borders as destiny. President Tinubu, who was represented by his deputy, Vice President Kashim Shettima, said while nations exist to complement one another, size, resources, and talent were inconsequential if they are trapped behind inefficient borders and fragmented markets. “Nigeria remains firmly committed, structurally and operationally, to building an Africa that trades by design, where integration is practical, measurable and effective. Our ambition is simple: a continent where borders facilitate opportunities rather than inhibit them,” he declared in a statement by Presidential spokesman,…

“Africa Cannot Strengthen AfCFTA Without Robust Border Systems, Says Customs Chief Adeniyi”

  • by

“Africa’s dream of a single continental market under AfCFTA will stay out of reach unless nations beef up border management and connect trade infrastructure, says NCS Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi.” Speaking at the launch of the Customs Partnership for African Cooperation in Trade (C-PACT) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday, Adeniyi described efficient customs systems as the “missing link” in Africa’s integration drive. According to him, the continent cannot grow intra-African trade or attract investment into regional value chains if outdated processes, data gaps and border bottlenecks continue to slow the movement of goods. “AfCFTA is a powerful idea, but powerful ideas require strong institutions. Weak borders, fragmented procedures and poor coordination will keep Africa trading on paper instead of in reality,” he said. Adeniyi argued that customs administrations hold the wealthiest and most granular trade data on the continent—information that can shape policy decisions, guide infrastructure investments and strengthen supply chains. He warned that fragmented data systems across African borders are undermining efforts to build competitive manufacturing hubs and predictable trade corridors. According to him, the C-PACT platform was conceived after separate engagements in…

“Fuel Prices Are Down — Dangote Refinery Tells Us Why”

  • by

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has clarified that the recent drop in fuel prices stems from the refinery’s own adjustments, rather than the Federal Government’s postponed enforcement of a 15% import tariff. In a statement on its X handle on Monday, the company said, “The factor that prompted the price adjustment was our own reduction of PMS gantry and coastal prices on November 6. “The subsequent change in pump prices is now being wrongly attributed to a tariff decision in an attempt to distort the facts and misinform the public.” The company explained that it reduced the PMS gantry price from N877 to N828 per litre on November 6, 2025, representing a 5.6% decrease, and lowered its coastal price from N854 to N806 per litre. Dangote Refinery stressed that the claim linking the price drop to the suspension of the import tariff was incorrect, noting that the tariff had already received approval from President Bola Tinubu on October 21, 2025, for immediate implementation. “Despite the non-implementation of the tariff, we reduced the price of our products. As a socially responsible company, this decision aligns with our long-standing…
