In a video shared on TikTok, the officer is seen discharging his weapon along the Oyo–Ilorin Road highway as other officers stood nearby.

In the clip, the TikToker is heard saying, “I want to hear gbaoo, my oga, the money has entered. Ohhh! My God. Oga, do am for my GLE.”

After the first shots rang out, he added, “One more, I’ll give you another N20,000. Do am, one more.”

The incident has drawn comparisons to a similar case in 2023, when three police officers were dismissed for firing into the air while escorting Dauda Adamu Kahutu, popularly known as Rarara, a well-known praise singer associated with the

The then Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the officers’ dismissal, citing misuse of firearms, abuse of authority, gross indiscipline, and the reckless discharge of live ammunition.

According to him, “The trio, Inspector Dahiru Shuaibu, Sergeant Abdullahi Badamasi, and Sergeant Isah Danladi were attached to a musician in Kano on escort duties. In the course of their assignment on Friday, April 7, at Kahutu Village in Katsina State, the officers repeatedly fired shots from their official firearms into the air, contrary to police policy, standard operating procedures, and existing Force orders.”

He added that the officers acted despite the potential danger to people at the scene, including children.

“The act was not only criminal and unprofessional but also embarrassing to the Force and the nation at large,” he said.

Adejobi further stressed that the Nigeria Police Force had repeatedly warned personnel to conduct themselves in line with established laws and regulations or face disciplinary action.
