“Police Set to Summon King Mitchy and VDM Over Shocking Bleach Challenge”

  • by

The Abuja Police Command announced that it will summon Michelle Mukoro, widely known as King Mitchy, and Martins Otse, also called Very Dark Man (VDM), for questioning over a viral video showing them apparently drinking a bleaching substance.

On February 28, 2026, Mukoro was seen consuming bleach during a TikTok livestream, causing alarm and raising public health concerns. Shortly afterward, Otse repeated the stunt. A few hours later, Mukoro posted on Instagram claiming she was dead, a statement later proven false.

The incident sparked a wave of imitation online, with some creators using Hypo sachets to mimic suicide attempts in videos and skits. This trend drew criticism from citizens who described it as disturbing and dangerous, with many Nigerians urging authorities to intervene due to its potential influence on young social media users.

Reports suggest the controversy began when Mukoro questioned the use of funds donated to Otse’s NGO, asserting that she had completed projects using her own resources. The dispute escalated into mutual accusations, during which Mukoro mentioned prominent figures including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, and Seyi Tinubu.

Under Nigerian law, Section 327 of the Criminal Code and Section 231 of the Penal Code state that attempted suicide can lead to up to one year in prison. Section 59 of the Criminal Code makes publishing false news intended to cause fear or disturb public peace punishable by up to three years in prison, while aiding someone to attempt suicide can attract life imprisonment.

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Miller Dantawaye, stated: “We are looking into it. I have spoken with my PRO on the matter. We will invite the duo soon.”

Meanwhile, Multipro Enterprise Limited, makers of Hypo Bleach, warned against consuming the product. Marketing Manager Mr. Adebayo Adeyemo stressed that Hypo Bleach is intended only for cleaning.

“It is not for consumption for trends. The circulating images are fabricated, and anyone promoting Hypo consumption, even as a joke or for views, is putting lives at risk. Influencers, bloggers, and content creators: your reach is real, and so is your responsibility. Trends that end in harm are not worth starting,” he said.
