The Israeli mission extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and everyone affected by the deadly attack, which is regarded as one of the most severe mass killings in Nigeria in recent years.
The Embassy of Israel in Nigeria has strongly condemned the horrific massacre in Kwara State that claimed the lives of over 160 people, describing the killings as a brutal act of violence against innocent civilians.
In a statement shared on its X handle on Friday, the Israeli mission extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and all those affected by the attack, which is being regarded as one of the deadliest mass killings in Nigeria in recent times.
“The Embassy of Israel in Nigeria condemns the horrific massacre in Kwara State, in which over 160 innocent people were brutally murdered,” the statement read.
The Embassy characterized the attack as an affront to humanity, emphasizing that the deliberate targeting of civilians is unacceptable under any circumstances.
“The deliberate targeting of civilians is an affront to humanity and can never be justified, no matter when or where it takes place,” it added.
Israel also expressed solidarity with the Nigerian government and people, pledging support for efforts to address insecurity and protect civilians.
“Israel stands in solidarity with the people and Government of Nigeria in their efforts to confront violence and protect innocent lives,” the statement said.
The condemnation comes amid widespread local and international outrage over the massacre, which reportedly took place in a rural community in Kwara State on Tuesday. Armed attackers invaded the area, killing residents and setting houses on fire.
While details of the attack are still emerging, humanitarian organizations and local residents estimate the death toll at over 160. Many bodies have reportedly been recovered from burned homes and surrounding areas, and several residents remain missing, raising concerns that the casualty figure could rise.
The massacre has renewed criticism of Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation, particularly in rural areas vulnerable to attacks by armed groups.
President Bola Tinubu condemned the killings, ordered the deployment of security forces to the affected area, and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice. However, residents and civil society groups continue to accuse the government of failing to prevent repeated attacks despite early warning signs.
International actors, including diplomatic missions and global organizations, have voiced growing concern over the frequency and scale of violent attacks across Nigeria, especially in the North-Central and North-West regions.
Security experts warn that without urgent, coordinated measures to protect rural communities, address intelligence gaps, and tackle the root causes of violence, mass-casualty attacks like the Kwara massacre could continue.
For now, survivors and grieving families are calling for justice, accountability, and a sustained security presence to prevent further bloodshed as the nation mourns another tragic loss of innocent lives.
