The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that armed bandits abducted 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, early Monday morning.
According to a press release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, the attack occurred at around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, when the bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the school and opened fire, shooting sporadically.
“The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them into a gun duel. Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled through the fence of the school and abducted Twenty Five students from their hostel to unknown destination,” the statement read.
The police confirmed that Hassan Makuku, a male staff member, was shot and killed during the attack, while another staff member, Ali Shehu, sustained injuries.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, reaffirmed the Command’s steadfast commitment to protecting the lives and property of Kebbi State residents,” the statement added.
Additional tactical units, working alongside military personnel and local vigilantes, have been deployed to search the area and rescue the abducted students.
“We are working tirelessly to rescue the abducted students and bring the perpetrators to justice,” a police source said.
The Kebbi State Government was yet to release an official statement on the incident as of press time, but it’s expected to provide more details soon.
The attack has sparked concerns about the security of schools in the region, with calls for increased measures to protect students and teachers.
“We appeal to the members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and continue supporting Police operations for peace and stability to be maintained,” the police statement concluded.
