A female pedestrian and member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) was fatally struck by a Mercedes-Benz C-300 in a hit-and-run on Saturday at the NYSC Bus Stop in Igando, Lagos State.
According to Vanguard, the victim was reportedly on her way to a worship service at MFM Church, Igando, when the accident occurred.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that its personnel responded quickly.
“Upon receiving distress alerts, LASTMA officers along the Igando axis acted promptly, cordoning off the accident scene to prevent secondary collisions and ensure the safety of other road users,” the agency said.
LASTMA added that the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
“The Mercedes-Benz C-300 driver absconded upon realising the fatal outcome of the incident. This act not only worsens the tragedy but also violates statutory and civic obligations of motorists involved in traffic incidents,” the agency said.
The vehicle was later removed from the road by LASTMA operatives in coordination with the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division. Police have launched an investigation to apprehend the driver.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olajide Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the victim’s family and the MFM Church community, describing the incident as tragic. He urged motorists to exercise caution, respect pedestrian rights, and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such fatalities.
