FCT Workers Resume Strike Despite Wike’s Orders

  • by

Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), under the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), resumed their indefinite strike on Thursday. The industrial action, which initially began on January 19, is over unresolved welfare concerns. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that only a few workers were present across FCTA secretariats, departments, and agencies, a sharp contrast to Wednesday’s heavy turnout. The low attendance followed JUAC’s directive for workers to remain at home. The resumption of the strike by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) comes after the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) filed an appeal against a National Industrial Court ruling on January 27. The ruling had instructed workers to suspend the strike and adjourned the case to March 23. JUAC pursued the appeal through its lead counsel, Femi Falana, SAN. Following the court’s decision, Mrs. Nancy Nathan, acting Head of the Civil Service of the FCTA, directed all workers to resume duties on Wednesday. Meanwhile, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike warned that there would be consequences for any worker who failed to return to work. He also assured staff that the… FCT Workers Resume Strike Despite Wike’s Orders

The World Bank has commended the Ogun State Government for its sustained investment in primary healthcare, describing it as a vital foundation for developing the state’s human capital and securing its future. Galina Vincelette, Vice President for Operations Policy and Country Services at the World Bank, delivered the praise in a statement on Thursday during a visit to Makun Primary Healthcare Centre in Sagamu Local Government Area. Makun PHC is one of 75 primary healthcare facilities in the state that have been upgraded under the World Bank’s IMPACT project. Vincelette emphasized that the facility represents more than just bricks and mortar, highlighting it as a deliberate effort to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare delivery in a sustainable and long-term manner. The World Bank official said, “What you are doing here clearly demonstrates the importance of investing in human capital. Ukraine Receives 1,000 Bodies in New Exchange With Russia

  • by

Kyiv announced on Thursday that it had received 1,000 bodies from Russia, which Moscow claimed belonged to Ukrainian soldiers killed while fighting Russian forces. The exchange of prisoners of war and the remains of fallen soldiers remains one of the few areas of cooperation between Kyiv and Moscow, which has been at war since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. “Today, repatriation measures took place, under which 1,000 bodies of the deceased, which the Russian side claims belong to Ukrainian defenders, were returned to Ukraine,” Kyiv’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said in a statement on social media. Kremlin aide Vladimir Medinsky confirmed that an exchange had occurred, noting on Telegram that Russia had received the remains of 38 killed Russian soldiers. Medinsky said the exchange was made possible as part of agreements struck between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul earlier last year. Tens of thousands of soldiers have been killed on both sides since Russia invaded, though neither side regularly publishes data on their own casualties.

EXCLUSIVE: Nigerians Stranded in Brazil Accuse Tinubu Government, Air Peace of Deception Over Alleged Lagos–São Paulo Direct Flight Deal

  • by

Nigerians living in Brazil have accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s airline, Air Peace, of misleading them with what they describe as a fraudulent promise of direct flights between Lagos and São Paulo—an arrangement that has allegedly left many stranded and facing financial hardship. Several affected Nigerians told Vibeslyfe that the much-publicised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reportedly signed between the Nigerian and Brazilian governments in August 2025 raised high hopes within the Nigerian community in South America. Central to those expectations was the promise of a direct Lagos–São Paulo route to be operated by Air Peace. However, months after the agreement was celebrated by government officials and widely promoted in the media, no such flight has materialised. One Nigerian resident in Brazil told Vibeslyfe that the entire arrangement appeared deceptive from the outset. “The Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Tinubu government with Brazil in August is a big scam. They gave us Nigerians living here false hope—it was all a lie,” the resident said. “Especially the claim that Air Peace would operate direct flights between Lagos and São Paulo.
