“US–Nigeria Joint Christmas Airstrikes Cripple Bandit Networks in Northwest Nigeria”

  • by

The United States, in joint operations with the Nigerian military, launched Christmas Day airstrikes that have reportedly delivered a serious setback to notorious bandit groups operating around the Sokoto–Zamfara axis of northwest Nigeria. Security sources familiar with the operation said the strikes targeted terrorist hideouts located in forested areas linking Sokoto State, Zamfara State and parts of the Niger Republic, long identified as strongholds for armed bandit leaders responsible for mass kidnappings, killings and cattle rustling in the region. According to information gathered by VibesLyfe on Monday, Bello Turji, one of the most feared bandit leaders in northwest Nigeria, is believed to have been killed in the operation. Turji has long been responsible for deadly assaults on rural communities and security personnel across Zamfara and surrounding states. Although official casualty figures have not yet been released by Nigerian or U.S. authorities, preliminary intelligence. Confided by sources indicates that several high-value targets were eliminated in the strikes, marking one of the most impactful operations against bandit leadership in recent years. The Christmas Day operation follows growing military cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in… “US–Nigeria Joint Christmas Airstrikes Cripple Bandit Networks in Northwest Nigeria”

“Beware: Fraudsters sending fake traffic fine alerts by SMS.”

Fines SA has warned motorists about a rise in fraudulent SMS messages claiming recipients have unpaid traffic fines. The scam messages urge immediate payment and often include links to fake websites designed to resemble official municipal or traffic fine platforms. Barry Berman, CEO of Fines SA, said there has been a surge in motorists contacting the organisation to verify whether such messages are legitimate. “These SMSs are made to look authentic and are intended to create urgency and panic,” Berman said. “Once a motorist clicks the link and makes a payment on an unsafe site, the money is lost and no fine is actually paid.” In these scams, motorists typically receive an SMS or WhatsApp message warning of an outstanding fine or imminent penalties. The link provided leads to a cloned website that closely resembles an official payment platform. A key red flag is that these links do not direct users to www.finessa.co.za, which is Fines SA’s only official website. Fines SA is urging motorists to exercise caution and independently verify any fine-related messages before taking action. Payments should only be made through secure, verified… “Beware: Fraudsters sending fake traffic fine alerts by SMS.”

“Attack on Nigerian mining site leaves at least 12 dead.”

  • by

At least 12 people were killed and three others abducted after gunmen attacked a mining site in Atoso village, Plateau State, on Tuesday night, a local group leader said on Wednesday. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, leader of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), said the attackers—identified by residents as armed Fulani militias—also left five people hospitalised with gunshot wounds. Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing. The attack highlights the persistent insecurity in Plateau State, a flashpoint in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where long-running ethnic and religious tensions have fueled deadly clashes between farmers and herders despite repeated government assurances of restoring peace. Tuesday’s attack came just days after four children were killed in a nearby village, Mwantiri said, accusing authorities of ignoring early warning signs. The BYM is urging the government to deploy more security forces to enforce a ban on open grazing, and rescue the abducted victims.

“Bruno Fernandes Names Three Ideal Destinations If He Leaves Manchester United.”

Fernandes has confirmed he was close to moving to Saudi Arabia during the summer, claiming that United wanted him to leave but talks with his family and head coach Ruben Amorim saw him stay put. Al-Hilal were understood to be willing to pay £100million for Fernandes, offering the midfielder wages of up to £700,000 a week, but resisted the move despite pressure from above which left him “hurt”. Bruno Fernandes’ time at Old Trafford appears set to end sooner rather than later, with the midfielder entering the final 18 months of his Manchester United contract in January. He has already revealed three dream destinations—none of which include Saudi Arabia. “I would like to experience the Spanish league and fight for big titles in Italy,” Fernandes told Canal 11. “I have many connections to Italy… my daughter was born there. “I’ve also thought about returning to Portugal… the first option would be Sporting. To be happy, like it was with Sporting. But I don’t want to ruin the image that was left.” “But I don’t want to drag myself there, I want to add to it. Northern Elders Urge Swift Termination of Controversial FIRS-France Tax Agreement

  • by

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has demanded the immediate termination of a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the French tax authority, Direction Générale des Finances Publiques, warning that the agreement poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s economic sovereignty and national security. In an open letter addressed to the Federal Government, the Senate, and the House of Representatives, NEF described the MoU as a “dangerous tax data agreement” that could place Nigeria’s most sensitive financial information under foreign control. The letter was signed by NEF spokesperson, Prof. Abubakar Jiddere. “The Northern Elders Forum writes today with grave concern and a profound sense of patriotic duty,” the letter reads. “This MoU is far from a harmless technical collaboration. It represents an unprotected gateway into the core of Nigeria’s tax infrastructure, potentially putting our most sensitive economic data in the hands of a foreign power whose historical engagements in Africa have frequently led to economic manipulation, political pressure, and strategic domination.” The forum warned that granting France access to Nigeria’s tax data undermines the country’s economic independence and could… Northern Elders Urge Swift Termination of Controversial FIRS-France Tax Agreement

The national oil firm earlier reported an explosion around 17:50 hours on December 10, 2025, near the Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State. Initial assessments indicated a pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment on a pipeline operated by NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC). NNPC stressed that the cause of the explosion remains unknown and will be determined following a detailed investigation. The company emphasized that its immediate priority was the safety of nearby communities and environmental protection. “Emergency response procedures have been activated, and we are working closely with relevant authorities and community leaders to ensure a coordinated approach to mitigate the impact. Peter Obi Poised to Exit Labour Party Amid Lingering Leadership Crisis

  • by

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is expected to formally leave the party this week, following months of unresolved leadership disputes and internal divisions. Obi’s departure stems from the prolonged instability within the Labour Party, which has struggled with factional leadership, ongoing court battles, and lack of cohesion since the 2023 elections. The move has intensified speculation about his next political platform, though no final decision has been publicly confirmed. POLITICS NIGERIA reports that several opposition parties have reached out to the former Anambra State governor, but talks remain fluid. While Obi has been linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), internal issues and emerging party alignments may delay any immediate move. Sources say he is weighing options that provide political freedom and a clear path forward, rather than joining an established party with entrenched interests. The Labour Party crisis, centered on disputes over former National Chairman Julius Abure’s tenure, has left the party fractured with parallel executives claiming legitimacy. Those close to Obi believe his continued presence has inadvertently fueled the internal power struggle. Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign transformed the Labour Party from… Peter Obi Poised to Exit Labour Party Amid Lingering Leadership Crisis

Remi Tinubu Speaks Out on Her Dispute With Osun Governor Adeleke

  • by

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has responded publicly to the growing debate over her interaction with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife. The ceremony, held on Sunday in Ile-Ife, marked a decade on the throne for Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi and included the conferment of the Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua title on the First Lady. However, celebrations took an unexpected turn following a tense exchange between Mrs Tinubu and Governor Adeleke. As the governor stepped forward to deliver his remarks, he began by singing praises to the monarch and the First Lady. She cut in, saying, “Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone,” before directing him to “conclude in five minutes.” A video of the moment quickly went viral, sparking widespread criticism from Nigerians who considered her tone confrontational and unnecessary. Amid the backlash, Mrs Tinubu addressed the controversy late Monday via her Facebook page, sharing a picture of herself standing beside Governor Adeleke. She noted that public office holders are often judged more harshly, with minor actions easily exaggerated. “Those… Remi Tinubu Speaks Out on Her Dispute With Osun Governor Adeleke

“AFCON 2025: Eric Chelle Worried as Serie A Star Remains Unfit for Action.”

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle may have to adjust his midfield options for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a series of injury setbacks, according to Soccernet.ng. The Franco-Malian manager released his provisional squad list earlier this week, featuring several fresh additions. Among the newcomers is Pisa midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro. The 21-year-old has stood out in Serie A this season, becoming an important figure for the newly promoted side. The Inter Milan loanee was even expected to make Nigeria’s team for the last international break, but a shoulder injury ruled him out of contention. He was supposed to spend around 4-6 weeks on the sidelines. Last week, it was revealed that he would be back in action for Pisa’s game against Parma at Arena Garibaldi on Monday. But fresh reports from Parma Live indicate that Akinsanmiro is yet to reach full fitness. As of Thursday, the Inter Milan loanee was still training individually, away from the rest of the squad. This means that he has not been passed fit yet and would definitely have to undergo a late fitness test before he can play against Parma on Monday.… “AFCON 2025: Eric Chelle Worried as Serie A Star Remains Unfit for Action.”

“Edo Governor Alleges Kidnappings Are Politically Motivated Attack on Tinubu”

  • by

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has stated that the current surge in abductions across Nigeria is a deliberate attempt to discourage President Bola Tinubu. Okpebholo argued that a similar strategy was reportedly used against former President Goodluck Jonathan and succeeded, but insisted that it would not work against the current administration. The governor’s remarks come amid a new surge of bandit-related abductions across the country. In November, armed bandits stormed the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Oke Isegun, Eruku, Kwara State, and kidnapped several worshippers during a service. In a separate attack, suspected bandits abducted 10 residents in the Biresawa and Tsundu communities of Tsanyawa Local Government Area in Kano State. Speaking to Igbo leaders at the Government House in Benin City, Okpebholo alleged that the recent kidnappings were driven by political motives. He said: “These kidnappings are happening because they want to frustrate the President, but he remains steadfast. “They are abducting people because someone wants to win an election. It’s unfair. They tried this with Goodluck Jonathan and succeeded, but we already understand their tactics.”

Dutch soldiers to take charge of Patriot air defense in Poland

  • by

Dutch soldiers are to spend the next six months defending the skies over eastern Poland in what one officer has called “the grey zone between war and peace”. The 300 troops will take control of the Patriot missile defence system from Germany, which has been responsible for responding to potential Russian attacks for the last year. Former commander of the Dutch armed forces, Mart de Kruif, said they would be monitoring the skies “24 hours a day, seven days a week” for ballistic missiles, drones and other objects. “We have seen Nato airspace being infiltrated from the east, often by what we presume to be Russian drones,” De Kruif said. “Nato said at the time: this is the limit. We are going to intensify our air defences.” In September Dutch F-35 fighter jets were involved in shooting down Russian drones that crossed the Polish border during a major aerial attack on Ukraine. Eastern Poland is where Nato stores military hardware that its members have donated to Ukraine and co-ordinates the transport across the border.
