“Fragmented Markets Undermining Africa’s Borders, Warns President Tinubu”

  • by

“President Bola Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to fostering an Africa with efficient borders that promote trade and economic opportunities rather than obstruct them.” He implored African nations to be disciplined in working towards building borders that meet the high demands and rapid pace of contemporary technological advancement. Speaking on Monday in Abuja when he declared open the Customs PACT – Partnership for African Cooperation in Trade, the President expressed delight to be a part of the event, which brought together partners and leaders from across the continent, saying it demonstrates the collective resolve to discard the old habit of accepting slow borders as destiny. President Tinubu, who was represented by his deputy, Vice President Kashim Shettima, said while nations exist to complement one another, size, resources, and talent were inconsequential if they are trapped behind inefficient borders and fragmented markets. “Nigeria remains firmly committed, structurally and operationally, to building an Africa that trades by design, where integration is practical, measurable and effective. Our ambition is simple: a continent where borders facilitate opportunities rather than inhibit them,” he declared in a statement by Presidential spokesman,… “Fragmented Markets Undermining Africa’s Borders, Warns President Tinubu”

“Africa Cannot Strengthen AfCFTA Without Robust Border Systems, Says Customs Chief Adeniyi”

  • by

“Africa’s dream of a single continental market under AfCFTA will stay out of reach unless nations beef up border management and connect trade infrastructure, says NCS Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi.” Speaking at the launch of the Customs Partnership for African Cooperation in Trade (C-PACT) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday, Adeniyi described efficient customs systems as the “missing link” in Africa’s integration drive. According to him, the continent cannot grow intra-African trade or attract investment into regional value chains if outdated processes, data gaps and border bottlenecks continue to slow the movement of goods. “AfCFTA is a powerful idea, but powerful ideas require strong institutions. Weak borders, fragmented procedures and poor coordination will keep Africa trading on paper instead of in reality,” he said. Adeniyi argued that customs administrations hold the wealthiest and most granular trade data on the continent—information that can shape policy decisions, guide infrastructure investments and strengthen supply chains. He warned that fragmented data systems across African borders are undermining efforts to build competitive manufacturing hubs and predictable trade corridors. According to him, the C-PACT platform was conceived after separate engagements in… “Africa Cannot Strengthen AfCFTA Without Robust Border Systems, Says Customs Chief Adeniyi”

“Fuel Prices Are Down — Dangote Refinery Tells Us Why”

  • by

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has clarified that the recent drop in fuel prices stems from the refinery’s own adjustments, rather than the Federal Government’s postponed enforcement of a 15% import tariff. In a statement on its X handle on Monday, the company said, “The factor that prompted the price adjustment was our own reduction of PMS gantry and coastal prices on November 6. “The subsequent change in pump prices is now being wrongly attributed to a tariff decision in an attempt to distort the facts and misinform the public.” The company explained that it reduced the PMS gantry price from N877 to N828 per litre on November 6, 2025, representing a 5.6% decrease, and lowered its coastal price from N854 to N806 per litre. Dangote Refinery stressed that the claim linking the price drop to the suspension of the import tariff was incorrect, noting that the tariff had already received approval from President Bola Tinubu on October 21, 2025, for immediate implementation. “Despite the non-implementation of the tariff, we reduced the price of our products. As a socially responsible company, this decision aligns with our long-standing… “Fuel Prices Are Down — Dangote Refinery Tells Us Why”

Former Niger State Governor, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has “removed the cancer” that was weakening the party. Aliyu made the remark while reacting to the expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his allies from the PDP. The remark came after the party, during its national convention in Ibadan on Saturday, expelled Wike and suspended National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu alongside former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose. Reacting, Aliyu said, “Like surgeons, we remove a cancer—the cancer that has been part of our party, that has crippled the party. “We hope that with the removal of the cancer, the party may be able to move and give Nigerians an option on what to do.” He also warned against turning the country into a one-party state, saying the consequences would be devastating. “If we make the mistake of creating a one-party state in Nigeria, we will pay for it. So, it’s good that we give an alternative to the Nigerian populace,” he added.
